Abstract

Lake Sentani is a fairly large and fertile lake in the Jayapura Regency, Papua Province, with a
water area of around 9,360 ha, an average depth of around 52 m. The source of the lake's
water comes from 14 large and small rivers and there is only one estuary, namely the Djaifuri
River which is located to the east (Puay Region). Then it joins the Tami River and finally
empties into the Pacific Ocean. Lake Sentani is rich in aquatic resources and is a habitat for
various fish species, however, information about the types of fish in the area is still limited. To
find out the types of fish that exist and live in the waters of Lake Semtani, research has been
carried out which will take place in October - December 2022, at Yoboy Village, Sentani
District, Jayapura Regency. The method used in this research is a survey method. Fish
sampling was carried out by catching fish using fishing gear, nets and fishing rods. The fish
samples are then taken to the laboratory and identified. Based on the research results, a total
of 22 fish species were found which were grouped into 8 orders, 13 families, 20 genera, 22
species. Water quality conditions are still within the normal range for fish life, namely: pH
ranges between 7 – 7.5; brightness 30 - 50 cm and 29 ºC – 30 ºC. temperature 29.3°C.
