Abstract

Asmat Regency has a mangrove forest area of 300,000 hectares. It has dozens of big and small rivers that empty into the Arafura Sea. The soil structure is muddy along the coast, so mangrove plants thrive in this environment far downstream. Based on these conditions, it is necessary to conduct research to determine the types of mangroves that live in the coastal area of Kampung Aou, Pulau Tiga District, and Asmat Regency. The aims of this study were to determine the types of mangroves that live in the coastal area of Kampung Aou, Pulau Tiga District, Asmat Regency, South Papua Province, and the condition of the water quality at the study site. This research lasted for 2 months, from January to February 2023, and was located in the coastal area of Aou Village, Pulau Tiga District, Asmat Regency, South Papua Province. The method used in this research is the survey method. Based on the results of the research, overall, it was found that 10 types of mangroves were grouped into 5 orders, 5 families, 8 genera, and 10 species. The water quality values are still in the normal range for mangrove life, namely: pH 7, temperature 28 °C–29 °C, and salinity ranges from 13–14%.
